Well quick post to organise my thoughts.
One of the ideas I had a long time ago for Opus was to have market days. I have worked as a trader in RL at various music festivals, and one thing I really miss from SL is the social aspect of shopping. Sure in some larger shops you will have a load of people, some of who may even be knowledgable about the products, but you can’t talk to them direct about their stuff, the weather, the day they’ve been having or what ever else. You also can’t haggle, vendors tend to be a little cold in that respect. Another major thing for me, is that to get something ready in a vendor is a whole lot of work to get setup, and I only get about 1/4 of the stuff I make (very conservative estimate) actually into a vendor.
Market day, as an event, would provide people with a social event, where they could actually talk with the creators, haggle with the creators, possibly get unique or rare items from the creators. Other ideas for this… like a carboot sale.. people could get rid of their second hand items, people could sell their skills, (niki suggested tarrot readings) maybe busking (would make the music stream available to anyone that wished to busk.. or maybe just done over voice) .. selling food…
Would need maybe an hour before hand to set people up… would need to do group tags for the sellers that are “recognised” ie. creators that may want to rez things.. but any one would be allowed to sell.. I would have to police the event to check people were selling in theme… and write some kind of disclaimer to absolve the management from responsibility of people.
Well thats that train of thought drained… if you have further ideas, would like to trade if it were to happen, like to shop if it were to happen… leave a comment, drop me an IM, send me a carrier pigeon…. I generally have hundreds of idea’s and then nothing comes of them through lack of interest.. but then I don’t tend to tell many people.. or not enough or the right people….
